I know I have been MIA lately with my blog postings. Life has been busy! I have been seeing this question popping up lately and I thought it was important to go over it.
Should I choose a salon or have someone come to my event/ home to get hair and makeup service done?
Of course I am partial and am going to say have your services done on location. I personally believe it is the best way to go. I have done so many bridal parties both in and out of the salon and I thought I’d share with you some of the pros and cons.
The Salon way:
Usually salons can get you and your Bridal party in and out quicker because they can book you across several stylists at the same time, but beware in some salons only certain stylist’s work specifically with Bridal parties so your party could be in there longer than you would think. It is key to ask plenty of questions.
Salons will normally set up an area with coffee and a table so you can bring in goodies. Some places may even have a private room.
You can relax in a nice salon chair, read a magazine, or chatter away with the person next to you.
You have to remember though that the stylists do have other clients that are just as important as you are. Since most weddings are on the weekends that also tends to be the stylists busiest days of the week. In my experience, there is always at least one person in the bridal party who is late (I am sure you can all figure out who that would be in your own bridal party). This can really jam up a stylist and cause some waiting time because our regular client is promptly on time waiting for their service and as we do not want anyone to have to wait or have a bad experience but that regular client is how we make our living and repeat business is crucial to us. Sometimes if you are late you may have to wait. This never seems to go well with a Bridal Party though, because they need to be taken care of. This causes the Bride and the salon a headache. Just remember that stylists usually have a full book for the rest of the day.
On Location/ or at home way:
First off, you are receiving a more personalized experience because for the next few hours you are the only clients we have and if someone is late we are still there to do them and we do not have the pressure of another client waiting just the photographer which makes for good pictures.
You can relax with your bridal party without strangers joining your conversation. Wear your PJ’s, talk about whatever you want while maybe sipping a mimosa?
No worrying about getting everyone to a salon in a timely matter. If you are worried about your friends who are always late have a sleep over. I would say most of the bridal parties I have done do this.
