I don’t know about you but once the holiday season is over I would love to just fast forward to the spring! Unfortunately we can’t do that so we are stuck with the cold and sometimes snow. This leads to new beauty problems that we don’t see other times of the year.
As much as a nice hot shower or soak in the bath tub sounds fantastic it’s really not. The hot water will just dry you out. Stick to a luke warm shower and apply moisturizer over your body after. I recommend applying right after the shower when your body is still somewhat wet. Everyone asks me what is your favorite body moisturizer, I haven’t found it yet, when I do I’ll be sure to tell you. At night before bed I do like some of the ones with shea butter. I found a few nice ones in Whole Foods. I won’t dare wear these during the day though for fear I will look like an oil slick! I find that any of the heavier moisturizers do not absorb well and I feel sticky and I cannot stand that when I’m doing my normal daily routine. Especially sweating at the gym! Right now my day time moisturizers I’ve been using is a Milk one I found in Trader Joe’s, Farm House Fresh (non shea kind), and Dermalogica.
Is your skin peeling? Do you feel like you have alligator skin? Dealing with a winter cold that has turned your nose raw feeling? This is the worst feeling ever! It is important to exfoliate this time of year. I exfoliate my whole body every 2-3 days this time of year. It’s important to get rid of those dead skin cells that are accumulating! You do not need to get crazy of me though. Don’t do out and find the roughest grit exfoliant and add it to your rough loofah and scrub a way… ouch! Using a wash cloth is good enough. I prefer liquid soap over bar soap. Bar soap is so drying and awful to clean out of a shower stall! Currently, for my face, I really love Dermalogica’s Thermofoliant. I love it! If you have the extra money to treat yourself this is the perfect time of year to get a chemical peel. I love the Vitamin C kind. Your skin feels amazing afterwards! For your face, I also recommend serums under your daily moisturizer. Serums will help hydrate while moisturizer will help keep a barrier between your face and the environment.
Let’s talk about the raw, red nose we get from the lovely colds that just won’t go away this year. There is not a whole lot you can do but here are a few tips. I like to buy the tissues with aloe and I stay away from using harsher feeling tissues. I know they are pricier, but totally worth it in my mind. For the raw, dryness I dab Aquaphor on the skin around my nose.
If you are combating with dry skin than please stay away from matte make up. Don’t do it! Your foundation looks like peeling bad sunburn and there is nothing worse than seeing someone with dry lips wearing matte lipstick, all it does is enhance the peeling! Don’t forget to exfoliate your lips too. I have a different toothbrush that I lightly rub across my lips and of course I keep them hydrated at all times. For your face, stay away from full coverage foundations. Instead try a BB or CC cream that have moisturizing benefits but coverage.
Is your hair a static nightmare? First get some moisture is your house. Heat just produces dry air. Don’t keep your heat on too high. Try some cool mist humidifiers in your home. I love these, especially the ones you can add essential oils to. Spray your hair brush with a little bit of light weight hairspray and then brush. Keep a dryer sheet on hand for when you go out. If your hair decides to stand on end after getting out of the car run the dryer sheet through it. Try some deep conditioning treatments in your hair as well. You do not need to go out and buy fancy products for this. Try some olive oil or coconut oil and put a cap over it. Also, try to skip using hot tools every day.
