I thought I’d introduce myself for those of you who follow me and have not met me. I’m Jaime and since I was a kid I have always loved playing with hair and since the time my mom would let me use make up I haven’t stopped exploring it. I used to think it was the coolest thing when my Mom gave me her freebies of Clinique. One of my best birthday’s as a kid was my 4th grade party at a hair salon that later became the place that started my career. I’ve always had an artistic, creative mind, maybe because I’m a left hander! LOL
Thirteen years ago I started my journey into this industry by becoming a receptionist in the hair salon, that yes my birthday party was at. Seeing first-hand how the beauty world worked sent me packing to Cosmetology school. When I started I did everything I could. I wanted to be well rounded knowing the ins and outs of the field. I worked in the salon doing hair, nails, and skin care. At the time I was the only one that really did make up in my salon so before I knew it every prom, dance, wedding, and event I was booked with make-up. I decided that I would invest more education into make-up and formal hair. I’ve taken several advanced classes to help me perfect my skill.
After being in the salon for several years, I decided I needed to learn more about the spa atmosphere of this field. I continued to work in the salon part time and I took another part time job at a spa. I wanted to learn more about the skin and relaxing treatments and how to truly pamper people. During this time my wedding business was increasing and the demand was changing from going to the salon to actually going on location for someone’s wedding day.
After almost 4 years in the spa I decided it was time for a change. Way back when, when I got my Cosmetology license I went back to school to get my Cosmetology Teaching license. I call that my dark ages, because I hated going to school for it. I remember going home crying because the students were tough and truthfully I wasn’t experienced enough in the field to feel confident. I remember getting my license and saying I will never ever use this but years later I found myself taking a position to teach Cosmetology.
This time around I really enjoyed teaching my students the trade that I know and love. My teaching career escalated quickly going from teacher to supervisor to a campus director to a director of education. I learned so much during this time. I took advantage of so many advanced classes and trade shows for the beauty industry. I learned the ins and outs of how a school operates, state regulations, and most of all being a therapist to students and staff. I learned that it was a tough job, you are faced with many challenging situations and I worked a lot of hours. I had a baby boy 2 and a half years ago and I found that my balance between work and family was not where I needed it to be.
So here you go another change, I left my position to spend more time with my family and to focus on my wedding business that just continued to grow from word of mouth. With all of my experience in this industry I found that working with weddings and special events is what I enjoy most. Yes, I get no sleep the night before in fear of my 3 alarms that are set at some obscene hour in the morning won’t go off and I will miss the event. Yes, I panic in my head that I forgot something. Yes, I panic that when I show up that morning I will have something in my teeth. All these panics make me human! I truly love it though. I love working with people on their very special days. I enjoy hearing about how it all happened, the details, the color schemes, the personalized touches that every event has. I meet some really incredible people. I also meet great vendors that I often network with. I also learn of the vendors that aren’t so good.
This past year I partnered with The Knot and I’m excited to say I won The Knot Best of Weddings! I never thought I’d get there! I’ve worked with so many different people Brides, Grooms, bride’s maids, Mother of the Brides, etc. I’ve done that cute 3 year old that wants Elsa’s hair and that adorable 90 year old that asks me to make her look 30 again. I’ve worked with Cancer patients and worked with some really interesting cultural ideas. My business is just me owner/ operator but I have many wonderful girls who work with me that were past coworkers but over the years have become some of my best friends. I have full trust in them to deliver amazing services to my clients.
I can’t thank all of my amazing clients and their kind words and the referrals they have given me. Without them I would not be here. So now you know this is why I may not blog much even though I really plan in my head to. Answering emails, working on contracts, servicing clients will always come first. Then let’s add in my job and being a mommy and a wife oh and getting in gym time because I need my balance! When I do get a semi break is when you will see me add a blog. Sorry this is so long sheesh! I just wanted you all to know who I am and my story. I thank each and every one who has supported me and supports small businesses. I couldn’t be happier with what I do for a living!
